    9-year bump.

3D printing is definitely here to stay. A few years ago I saw an early version of these printers in action at my University, and knew I was seeing the future. Since then, industrial and consumer "additive manufacturing" has been a major focus. Recently, I took another look into the industry and you can now buy a consumer-level 3D printer for $1,300. Might sound pricey, but these things have to start somewhere, right?

The potential here, as mentioned in a few places in some of these threads, is huge. Prototyping and manufacturing will see new efficiencies and this could lead to a shift in how and where things are made. After seeing this, I bought some stock in their parent company, 3D Systems (DDD). So glad I did! I can see that this is an amazing and great technology, especially for designers.
