The Bell- X-1 broke the speed sound barrier in 1946
The SR-71 was used from 1966 to 1998 its maximum top speed is still classified. It was know that it could do Mach 3.2 (2,500mph) That means it would take 11hours to circle the planet. Thats oldschool plotting without GPS.
The X-15 was did Mach 6.72 and was retired in 1970
There is talk of making a rocket the Zehst that uses Zero Emissions and flys from London to NY in 1 hour. Thats a public non classified flight plane that can cover 3459.34miles in 60 mins.
