  As a matter of principle, I think most of us agree with that sentiment. However, the US Justice System as it exists today honors not principle but the ability to continue arbitration by fiscal dependancy. In otherwords... who has the deepest pockets. I'm sure Lance would rather blow his fortunes on something other than courtcases for the remainder of his life.

  You are also forgetting an important factor of the US justice sytem: Innocent until proven guilty.
