And your "laws don't work" crap is bullshit. Especially when you say people smoke marijuana all the time here.
It's how the law is enforced. It's the punishment. If the punishment if lenient, people will take the risk. Catch me with pot? I'll take the slap on the wrist.
Enforce laws well enough, and they are effective. Singapore will kill you for having drugs. Nobody in that country would dare to have any drugs.
I'm not saying ban drugs. I'm saying enforce the laws. Enforce a gun law well enough, and you will see crime rates drop.
