Size and population of a country has nothing to do with those stats. The UK death rate has been adjusted to match the US's population. It's simple fractions.
Yes, there are many messed up people out there. Like I said though, I'd rather be confronted by a crazy person without a gun, than a crazy person WITH a gun.
So what is your solution to address this root problem of crazy people? Are you proposing an enormous increase in social services, so that there isn't a single mentally ill or poor, desperate person in the country?
How do you know that it's easy to obtain weapons outside of law? Obviously people in the UK are having trouble. You say one can buy weapons and ammo online right now, and that US laws have no control over that. Answer: Shut down those websites. The US shuts down all types of websites all the time, from music downloading to kiddy porn. Where do you get the idea that the government has no power to do this?
Look at the evidence. A blind person can see what works and what isn't working.
