    the "death penalty" in the case - I think I read - would only extinguish the football program for one year. No games, practice, recruiting, etc.

    This, to me, seems preferable to having the reputation and legacy permanently affected by taking away wins.

    Paterno posthumously got what he had coming to him - but the players, the school and the fans are the ones who are really suffering with this ruling. For a lot of those past players, those wins and experience were a big feather in their life-cap. Much empathy goes out to them... I think the NCAA got this one wrong - but I recognize setting an example when I see it.
