    I know you pay a lot less for Aussie wines outside Australia (makes perfect fucking sense) but a few recommendations in that price range here, and specific brands if you can get them.

    Most 2010 Cabernet Merlot from Western Australia (Margaret River) is great. Big fruity reds. It was a good year, so I'm told.

    Reislings from Clare Valley are usually a good bet. A million miles away from that sugar syrup from Germany.
    Jim Barry W from any year is an absolute winner if you can get it.

    And you can't go past a good Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc (New Zealand). Cloudy Bay, Villa Maria, Wither Hills (also make a killer reisling) all very good.
