i finally asked john krikfalusi what the deal was with those awful ren and stimpy cartoons, something which had been bothering me for a while.

Q: "i'm a huge fan of ren & stimpy, but the most recent episodes, the ones done for spike tv, were uh... different. how closely involved were you with these episodes, and how do you feel about them?

do you feel like you got to take the series and characters to a more adult, crude place because you were free of normal restraints and you always wanted to do that, or do you feel like they went to a more adult, crude place because spike tv wanted them to?"

A: "They (Spike) actually asked me to "adult up" the cartoons because they wanted to go for an older audience. I really wanted to continue just doing what we did the first time around.

I think it was because shows like South Park and Family Guy were so much more "edgy" than the original Ren and Stimpy that they figured we need to up the gross out level.

If I were to do it again I would be less vulgar and concentrate more on the personality gags."

    • i always hated how they became a gay couple in the new episodes. it just cheapens it. the ambiguity was funnierscarabin
