@ETM I don't think you can assume that cloud gaming and these new platforms will be selling to a new audience and won't impact on console gaming. Nor will everyone be able to do as you say, and just find more time and money for new platforms while continuing to spend on releases for multiple consoles.
AAA big game dev is hardly healthy with fewer making the profits required and plenty shutting down. I can't imagine that will improve when the number of consoles and gaming platforms increases, can you?
- The fact that mobile gaming has become what it has contradicts your point.ETM
- That said, it would likely compete for existing mobile device time. Use the tv rather than your tablet while at home.ETM
- Also quality AAA titles make bank. Gears of War, EA Sports franchises, Modern Warfare.ETM
- But like the movie industry, you bet the bank on the high budget that doesn't pay off, you often shut the doors.ETM
- To me that means the industry is matured, not troubled. Now you make fewer big budget titles, and indie studios make smaller creative games.ETM
- smaller, more creative projects needing a real hook for attention. Something we see already and great stuff coming out of that community.ETM
- out that gets a marketing channel through things like App store, Live Arcade and maybe this OUYA.ETM
- Regardless, I enjoy this debate. Maybe the thing will turn out to be vaporware.ETM
- Yeah me too, and I applaud your 8 note reply! I'm seeing all the 'traditional' dev closures as all bad...MrT
- but it's also a clear out. For every Gears of War there's a Prototype 2 - well received but dev closed down.MrT
