If you are bringing a product to US, you should have the company registered along with the product.
Number is assigned to the company and the product.
Once you have the number, it can be verified almost anywhere via just putting in the number.
The bar code can be scanned via many mobile phone apps but most laser based scanners dont scan the same way. If you want to verify the scan-ability on laser, you need a portable laser scanner.
