I once did something like this, my goal was to AVOID showing the end product before showing the steps to get there, so I did the following:

    1. save each page as it's own PDF, files named by idea, not numbers (non-guessable that way)

    2. FTP upload to a directory on my server, then password protect the directory using cpanel and turn OFF directory listing so client couldn't see file list.

    3. Talk on Phone while client and I have a google chat window running, as I introduce a page or concept, I copy-paste the URL of that particular PDF page into the google chat window and ask client to click on it.

so we had phone + google chat + PDF + FTP with some tweeking of webhosts's Cpanel.... low-tech, but it worked well, as it controlled the flow, which was all-important in this case, as some clients would jump the gun and ask questions about the last page before even looking at the first pages.... and this approach seemed almost as good as being in person, able to control the flow... and justifications for aesthetic decisions, a HUGE issue for me to make sure client knows it's not "just a matter of your taste vs mine"
