NOLA: DO walk Bourbon street at least once, with a lurid plastic container of booze in hand, despair at the vile, wretched state of humanity, then turn off and never go back. Ever.
Do all of the French quarter on foot. Delight in the quiet aging splendour of the courtyarded homes in the eastern end..
Have breakfast at The Coffee Pot - the most wonderfully friendly server ladies, absolute stars, a great way to start the day.
Have coffee and beignets at the Cafe Du Monde, anytime of the day or night. Get down to the Garden District, St. Charles Ave and 1st, 2nd etc streets - Anne Rice's old house is on 1st...just beautiful streets with trees and period houses - lovely :).
Then, when you drive to Austin, take i-90, then at Morgan City get off the freeway and take the smaller road and go through the towns of Baldwin and Franklin etc, to see some awesome old colonial houses, etc..

    • oh, and City Park is great for an hour or two. Ride the little train that's in the amusement park bit. And the ferris wheel..mikotondria3
