severian,
it's not really fair to say i don't understand children because i don't have them, i was one, as was mg33, so i do i understand, as well as interacting with them and their parents in my everyday life.
the good thing about "graduating" from the 3rd grade was that i wasn't being held back like the stupid kids.
you know how much it sucks to know your kid is bored in class because a teacher is having to devote too much personal time to a single student? the system is stuck picking up the slow ones instead of elevating the smart ones. then to treat them as equals at the end of the year in this meaningless ceremony which i equate to participation trophies, you're doing nothing for the advanced students but dulling their brains by surrounding them with stupid and patting them both on the back.
