Last time I visited NYC I was fortunate enough to stay with family friends, an elderly Jewish couple my father attended Harvard with for a year. Through their careers, and the wife's significant inheritance, they have accumulated wealth in the many, many millions. They are staunch Democrats, and have no issue whatsoever with the government levying higher taxes on their earnings; they feel they are doing their part. They are philanthropists, big donors to charities they care about, and honestly some of the kindest people I have ever met.
It's a damn shame they're clearly an exception to the rule. A few nights eavesdropping sitting at the bars around Wall St, Union Sq and the Meat Packing District taught me that other, similarly successful individuals are devoid of these admirable qualities. For those people, greed rules.
