the first edition of this project was done when i was about 12 ('94) as a school assignment. over the years its evolved quite a bit. it's been written, rewritten, sketched, re-sketched, digitized, thrown aside, picked back up, round and round. i suppose it's my longest running side project- but every time i get close to being happy with it, it gets put in the rubbish and i start over at frame 1.
anyway, i've come across some of the sketches from around '02/03ish - i was just getting comfortable enough with illustrator to think that all my artwork needed to be vectorized and stored on a zip drive. glad that phase didn't last too long.
i've just finished reading 'cannery row' again - there's a character in it who builds a sail boat, and has been building it most of his life. every time it gets close to being done, he decides the design isn't right and breaks it down and starts over. i suppose this story is my sailboat.
