    I don't really think, in the freelance world, that contracts are worth bothering with. If someone wants to stiff you, they can stiff you. And what are you going to do, sue them over $5000 or $10000? Well, once you've hired a lawyer and wasted, at the very least, months and months trying to collect the dosh, at the end of the day, you haven't made any money.

    Especially if you tally up all the time you've put in writing the contract, and negotiating the fucking thing.

    Only thing you can do to protect yourself is to get paid all along as you do the work. Get a substantial deposit before you start. This proves they have money, and keeps you from getting too badly screwed.

    Have payments due every week, or every two weeks, and try to keep things friendly. This also keeps the client from fucking around, and dragging out the project forever.
