what makes it unique to a foreigner? I don't think a damn thing other than some people find kanji exotic.
What makes it unique is the cultural and socialogical paradigms that drive visual and aural presentations in japan. Once you're able to see Japanese design from within the Japanese cultural perspective, that's when things really get interesting. Far too complex a concept for this little text box though.
