I've recommended before that clients use BOTW as a resource for the 90% of people who just need a logo. If they upload logos and police the site often to ensure only the current and official artwork is up, and give plenty of info on usage and where to download guidelines or ask questions if would help out the long-tail of logo users. Keep the corporate brand site for official partners, agencies, etc. That said, I've never had a client take me up on it. Too many risks that could cost someone their job. Many prefer to track usage via a brandsite logs or are just too concerned with security.

Anyway the biggest drawback is wrong, poorly drawn and out dated logos. SO many logos on there are incorrect or old, use the wrong color, etc. Another drawback is people download and use the right logo, the right way, but for the wrong reasons. (i.e. I'm pitching your company, so I built a powerpoint template that looks like it's from your company. <- that actually happens a lot.)

Some companies have fears about people misusing logos to be critical of the company, or misusing logos for security issues (printing their own stationery to write "official" letters, biz cards/badges, uniforms, etc to commit fraud, etc.)

Anyway I think the good outweighs the bad. If someone really wants your logo they'll find it another way. Side note - another good resource for logos: sometimes companies embed vector artwork in their PDFs: try googling the brand name and filetype:pdf
