    re lilbabyarm:

    "you ain't a real skater".

i didn't say i was an 'on and off skater', i said i'd 'skated on and off'. it may seem like splitting hairs, but you tear some ligaments or snap an achilles and see if you do another '21 years straight'.

in any case, i wouldn't go around calling myself 'a skater' anyway. i skateboard for fun, not because i get to act as if it makes me something special, or lets me claim membership of some social group. i read a couple of books a week, but i don't tell people "i'm a real reader".

i obviously annoyed you by thinking that you didn't know what you were talking about. i'd apologise, but taking your first post on its own, that's what it looked. - i'm glad you qualified all your points.

i didn't claim nike was 'legit'. i said that they have industry credibility. whether you buy credibility, or gain it 'legitimately', you have it either way. and if you look into the business of any shoe company out there (with one or two exceptions), you can claim that they're not 'legit' because they sponsor band X or advertise in magazine X or company X has a 49% share in them.

i'm not going to get into your skatepark argument, because i didn't say anything for or against them in the first place.

as for teams not having rules or coaches. i know a couple of team managers who've thrown people off for breaking rules. every team is different. just like in football or rock climbing or pool.

'what person would turn down a shitload of cash?'

you're right. but you're dissing nike for the same thing you're excusing pro skaters. nike look at skateboarding and see dollar signs, but so do 90% of the other shoe companies out there.

and i don't understand why people are acting like this is some new campaign. they're released some new shoes, but they've had skateboarding ads for about 5 years now and even a few tv commercials.

you can say that nike are shit for a lot of reasons, but trying to make money out of skateboarding is what most of the skate industry is about _now_. if you want to put that all onto nike's back you can. but what about adidas, vans, sole tech, etc? are they the good guys?
