    ok.. possibly serious now.....

I'm more of a developer than designer, but I found out early in my web career that it seemed that:

The more elegant the design, the more fragile it is....
(risk of design being wrecked by content shoe-horned into it)

So... I figured out the hard way, that an elegant design, for me at least required a higher-end, branding-serious client, and a strong restraint over content specs, as the slightest extra word here or there could wreck things, and/or one photo that's not quite as good as the others could ruin the whole effect, not just that photo.....

Whereas, less elegant designs were more likely to survive extra crap being thrown at them, and not such great photos could be radically cropped in order to maintain some semblence of good design....

Any thoughts? I'm sure we all have slightly different definitions of elegant design, but I think it's also a "know it when you see it" kind of thing....
