  nobody should be using interns as production monkeys. You want to hire someone to do extra work for cheap HIRE someone who is capable and willing. Hire a student if necessary just don't tell them its an internship. You want someone to learn, you want to help talent grow who can then subsequently help your company or industry, get an intern.

  I would severely resent a company who used me as a 'production monkey' while I was trying to do an internship. Pay the intern too if you feel like it but don't use them like a hired hand... maybe on occasion.
