i've just recently purchased two domains through sedo for quite a bit more than $250. one transfer took about 2 weeks, the other a little over a month.
just know that when you make your offer on sedo, (if it's not a buy it now price) the seller then has the option of giving you the finger and using your offer amount as the starting bid for an auction that'll last a week. that happened with the first domain i got on there, but luckily it's a very niche name that nobody else saw valuable enough to get in a bidding war over.
