    True story:

An past co-worker of mine, who is a genuinely nice guy, made lunch plans nearby one of our other locations. Our boss overheard and asked him to take the company van (instead of his own car) to lunch so that he could drop off a few things. He agreed. When leaving the other location, he accidentally backed into someone driving a rental truck.

When he returned to the office and told our boss, the boss said that he wasn't insured on the company van. The insurance company refused to cover the accident, and our boss told this co-worker that they would be taking the cost of the accident out of his pay.

This is likely illegal in Canada, but we're not sure, so anyway the guy says, "I'm not paying for it."

The boss says he can either pay for it, or quit.

The guy quits. I suggested he call the labour board or perhaps a lawyer because that was some serious bullshit. He said he didn't care enough to bother.

Anyway, the next day he came into pick up his final cheque and dismissal papers. While in the office (for maybe about 5 or 10 minutes) his car was stolen out of the parking lot. He didn't have theft insurance.

Upon discovering the parking spot with no car, he told me it was the worst day of his life, and I honestly believed him.
