Another reason:
I need to buy a fan heater.
Who has the job of Designing a fan heater? Because if it was up to me - you'd be fired.
Look at these awful white plastic 'ufo' shaped messes. You can just imagine the dory Industrial Design degree graduate (with a 2.2) getting out his felt tip marker pens and sketching enthusiastically these awful designs whilst humming along to euro-trance track played on his Microsoft Zune:

for example:
WTF! awful. This is an item that goes in a persons house. It should be designed to be pleasant to look at, unfussy and functional.
If I lived in Japan I'd be able to buy this simple, inexpensive, brilliantly designed beauty of a fan heater:

This is why, in terms of design, Asia is steadily not only catching up - but overtaking the west. And the Japanese have long been setting the standard.
- How can such a simple item be designed so badly....orpkoobcam2
- lol, your totally right. it has 1 task, it should be so un-intrusive.Hombre_Lobo
- orpkoobcam2, I've lived in Japan for the last 10 years, and your conclusion here is just whack. There are 100es of those awful heaters designed by Japanese as well. Just because there's one or two you like from a Japanese doesn't mean 1) there's no designed heaters in the west 2) Japanese ones are "overtaking" anything. Likely it's simply that you've a fetish for anything Japanese.Peter
