OK, so they get a new signup process, one that requires authentication... So what? Anyone with an email address can authenticate through the signup process. What? an extra step before spam? Big deal.
Even Facebook, twitter, OpenAuth won't help because they're sharing the content they want. you can only censor it once it happens, just like we experience now. making a new twitter to signup with not hard, making a new Facebook, not hard, only the OpenAuth would work because they would eventually run out of people... and that's only because I don't know exactly how it works.
You think that allowing members to flag spam won't get abused? how many users or comments that are publicly acceptable just not qbn acceptable would be prone to this deletion? It wouldn't take long for the mobs to form as well as members with multiple accounts and the "voting down" of members would commence.
All you do is create a new problem, one you're more happy with because it serves your personal interests not the sites.
I say leave it like it is, allow the tattle tales to do their thing and be happy with your current mod, it's a shit job, the users are unappreciative. I'd say they are in general though, so much expectation of the site, with so little given to it.
