    Where I'm from has been influenced by the JP long before the US was... I may be wrong but I think the anime craze began from Dragonball-Z.

    Culture makes a world of difference and the world different.

    The culture (now) there is anything goes, hence you see a lot of trash designs that are well accepted, as well as those which stem from the deep history that they have (beyond just the samurais and ninjas that are often misintepreted).

    Look beyond the big-eyed anime and the plastic neon-lights and maybe you'll see some soul and not just some photoshop effect.
