nah. santa monica is safe for me to walk around at night. my car has never been broken into.. lots of stuff to do in the area and im close to the beach. i grew up by the beach south of LA so its home to me.
different strokes for different folks machito. I'd say living in west LA or somewhereon the west side is much safer and cleaner tthan living cheap on the east side. los feliz, silverlake and pasadena are no longer cheap... most apartments dont have central air.. so during the summer id rather be close to the beach with fresher air and cooler weather than smoggy and sweaty inland anywhere. plus.. traffic sucks over there more.
