In the quote "talent borrows, genius steals". I think the key thing to remember is that in stealing you don't just use something in a post-modern sense, subverting or recontextualizing it. You actually steal it. You take posession of it's core meaning and extend it as if it were your own. It's a subtle difference, but it's a whole different level of understanding what you're doing.
