There are always people who know software but can't design anything and don't have a concept of actual marketing process or communication of a big idea... some workplaces like the lack of backbone or questioning attitude.....
But also beware that job descriptions list the "official" part of the job, whereas the invisible, more important part REALLY IS often design oriented, they just can't really express it in an ad, which is usually written by a bunch of HR "professionals" and NOT the actual people doing the hiring.......
It does seem that many companies are afraid of hiring a "design person" who doesn't "really know the software" because they think that's the "deadline bottleneck" rather than their own random and contradictory specifications which are usually the real reason a project is over deadline.....
