If anything just put your budget into that 8gb ram and an i7.
You should store and edit your video files from an external drive via firewire (unless you are shooting at an intense resolution like 2k+).
Video card memory isn't too much of big deal, rather aim for the latest on the market - it's more about the chipset.
Probably a tech head here that will give a ten times better response than this though!
