Just because the content fits the website does not mean that it is not an unsolicited attempt to sell something, also known as spam. Would you be stoked if type designers were coming to your studio door all the time trying to sell you typefaces? Probably not... But if, for example, a fellow designer mailed you this awesome poster he made to showcase his new typeface, which just happened to mention where the typeface was for sale on the back, you probably would think that was rad and would possibly feel inspired by the amazing poster you just received, swaying you to buy the typeface.
"This is a typeface, buy it, $49, link," with no mention of having created it himself, isn't: "Hey dudes, I've been appreciating the design community you've built here for a while and I just released this awesome typeface that I'm really proud of and I thought you might like it. Its called Appetite and it looks like this: [insert picture here]. If you want, here is some more info on it [myfonts link]" That wouldn't have rubbed me the wrong way at all. Dude just did it the shady way instead of the full disclosure way, as should have been done, especially among what would be considered his peers...
Anyways, there are no stickies with rules, which makes it all the more important to self police and make sure that dudes keep this a (mostly) graphic design discussion forum instead of (slightly) graphic design related sales forum.
