    I wouldn't overthink it.

    If they drink, an ‘expensive’ booze they'd likely appreciate.
    If they don't drink.. well, whatever fancy consumable best fits.

    I'd not go for anything 'permanent', unless you know they specifically want something.. even then, slightly awkward territory.

    Whatever it is should be viewed as a token gesture, more on the level of basic manners than oily bribery.

    Whatever, I'd totally not take anything registe says on the matter to heart—his bitterness is belied in everything he says, so I'd be very surprised to learn he's ever been in the position to thank someone.
