new MBA is more than capable running dev/design software. 4gb of ram and i7 will do the job just fine.
The biggest issue IS the screen real estate. Not so much for coders but a big problem for designers. It's just way too cramped.
- thunderbolt display would be favourite... I'd go MacBook Air all day longejectstudio
