a job out of left field in december has become one of the funnest things i've been a part of personally...
i was asked to photoshop a silverware tray around a photo of some silverware sitting on a table. i reminded the client and the middle men bringing me into the job that 3d models were available of the clients entire collection of silverware.
i used those to 3d model the said tray in a configuration fitting within the confined parameters that i thought was pretty unique.
In essence i circumvented their entire design phase as they were looking to have collateral for a meeting to possibly sell the items as a set. having provided my low quality renders in time for their meeting, they were asked when they could take stock.
I was a success. It was now not if they could sell them but when.
The job continued from there allowing me to fine tune the design, a fellow engineer to create the files for tooling, and another friend to run the prototypes themselves.
From there I have photographed their entire silverware collection for web and print.
I was then asked to provide high quality renders of the item in different finishes on different surfaces for them to review before finalizing production decisions.
I am now creating the artwork for the Tray wrap as the the SKU for the tray arrived this morning. I was told in my overview of services that I have creative freedom though how intricate would one make such a thing?
In summary, I've created a product for a company, helped prototype it, prepared it for production, and am now creating advertising and supporting collateral for it.
I guess the moral of the story is; if you can, offer more than they ask for, it may turn into bigger things for you.
Good days. :)
