One of the main reasons FB grew this much and people didn't dump it is because they had a solid product and no competition. Now when Google+ is here they are scared. You can see that very obviously with their rapid release of certain features to their network.
It's not just Google. I know personally a few startups who are making Facebook alternatives. It's really only matter of time before one of them gets a pull and takes all the users away from Facebook and all their friends with them.. This is very easy too.. Facebook has made so many bad things but people couldn't switch to anything else. All the new network needs to have is a solid product and to be fresh. Google+ hits both of those spots and integrates into our devices, computers, email, search etc etc.. has much much higher value than Facebook.
Now those who wanted to leave Facebook, will have alternatives and if I go, I'll take at least 100 of my friends to the new network. So will others. If the new network is deemed cool by everyone Facebook is dead because the inertia will make everyone switch to a new fresher social network and Facebook can't do anything to stop that.
