Boz,
it's very hard to argue with someone who right away uses descriptive words to oversimplify the opposing party's point but assuming you really want to have a conversation based on the merits of the film... Here we go.Yes, there are popcorn flicks that are not meant to be deep of eye opening but I have to ask you how many times you need to see exploding stuff before you say “Booooooring!” I mean I poped “Battle: Los Angeles” for 10 minutes (that I got from my step-father's bootleg collection) and at some point with whole of LA being bombed I was paying more attention to a bugger pulled out of my nose. Now, assuming that i'm not some deranged individual who doesn’t know the difference in value between a buggar and thousand of lives being lost in that bombing why would it be that the image of bombing were of so little interest to me? Do I have some serious attention deficit disorder that prevents me from paying attention to all those explosions? Well, the truth is that explosions on the screen simply do not turn me on anymore – maybe i'm getting old, or maybe I “have seen it all” thus just explosions, and just shit blowing up is simply not enough. What is so curious that there is a whole army of people who seem to go though a mass amnesia as each time they chose to go see the movies the say “wow” to the same explosions... now, why would that be? Is it that those popcorn flicks are for really young audience who simply haven't seen all those explosions just yet (thus my comment about the 13 year old and under age group)?
Now for you to say that we'll all see it anyway at some point... Well, you do have Netflix account, right? And thus access to pretty much any film ever made? If so then why would you subject yourself to such boring, predictable experience? This is not 1998 where this along with a few other films is all one can see! Especially even as far as popcorn flicks are concerned this one is tremendously uninspiring. Of course no one is expecting deep film making from Michael Bay but aren't we being a bit too lenient when it comes to our acceptance of his “thrill rides”? I mean, there are no thrills! Even he himself understands that by simply recycling shots from his previous films (made 7 years ago), if the maker himself is not having any fun how can he expect us to have any?
We are living in times where there is simply so much fantastic content available all over that for me to spend any amount of time on uninspiring productions is simply time wasted.
