no.. but this movie is spectacular visual feast. The story is coherent enough to follow and you go to see this movie to be basically overwhelmed by visual effects and the plethora of "fuck yeah" moments.
We all know it's not going to win Oscars. We all know Transformers movies are not supposed to be Children of Men and have deeper meaning. It's pure fun, entertainment, plain and simple.
It's animated movies I grew up with, transfered to big screen in a spectacular fashion. Saying that it's shit and criticizing character development or how story is not award winning is really hipster like to be honest. It's not that you criticize the movie, you are directly insulting everyone who wants to have fun and plug-out of real life for a few hours to enjoy some robots and hot chicks.
There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with that.
Michael Bay is entertainment director. He knows how to make those slow motion "fuck yeah" moments that we all find fun.
Bad Boys, Bad Boys 2, The Rock etc etc.. all of these movies are certainly not grounded in reality or Oscar worthy but a hell of a lot of fun. Transformers is his pinnacle in visual effects we really enjoy.
People need to distinguish an ok movie that's a lot of fun and is done fantastically well (technical execution of Transformers is top notch). It's a feel good movie, who's only purpose is not to take itself too seriously and give you some spectacular entertainment.
To shit on a movie and say how people who see are idiots and how you would never see it is 100% hipster douche thing to do. It's like "I'm better than these brainless idiots so I won't go and see it".
If you are in design and visual communications business, I strongly suggest you see the movie. If anything it can allow you to appreciate the people who worked on the film and the design/effects/3d talent behind it. It's breathtaking how well these people do their job.
That alone is worth price of admission.
