    It's rude but is universal and isn't going to change. Problem is that there are two groups of people...one who really love the band playing, who are there to listen and take it all in; and then those who are either there to be seen or who have been invited by the first group or others there to be seen. None of these people care about what's happening on stage, this is their social time. It's very hard to appreciate a band (especially a small, unknown band in a small venue with not amazing sound), hear lyrics, etc. you've never heard of.
