Killing is not easy.
The only experience I had that marked me the most was at 16, went to a friends modest farm help out with a "matança do porco" (pig's killing). its a process that involves the whole family plus every friend you can have. 11 pigs were killed that day. Jesus fucking Christ that shit was really hard. I didn't "killed" any but aided in the various processes, and there's a lot of them. In Portugal, we eat the whole pig, everything. Nothing is discarded (except for the rectum content of course). That shit still haunts me time to time. I'm not a vegetarian but I have respect for the meat I eat.- as Hitch says in God is Not Great - "There's something about that scream..."
