  Someone I've worked for / with for years (10+ years) just informed me that I was over-looked by his associate's company for more work because of a 'poor job' I did on some powerpoint shit they had me rush for them over a weekend a few months back...

  ... really??? A powerpoint presentation? you judge AD / Design work off a fucking presentation that constricts you to Arial or worse?... Needless to say I'm feeling a bit like I was just kicked between the legs.
