I would just keep your head down and stick to your original plan of giving notice when it suits you.
They might ask you to go sooner otherwise, it has happened in places I have been in the past.
It might just of been they realised they had far too many managers and decided to streamline that side of the business.
Now that would be a refreshing change. . .
