my advice is to buy the generic stuff from Ikea (or the one you cannot afford from expensive places) and give personality to your pad with some vintage/second hand/captured-from-the-skip stuff.
or if you are really minted get some natuzzi / hermann miller to make it pop.
We did that with the missus on the last 3 flats we had and usually works fine. The advantage here is that most of people rent furnished flats here, so you get rid of thefurniture when moving -also it can cost you more than buying new!
Anyway make sure you buy a vintage (or at least half decent) expresso machine and you learn to use it properly.
