  Modern Macs run on the same hardware as PC's, it's just the OS it comes with and the casing that is different.

  Hackintosh is just making a Mac out of the same components and not in a Mac case, and saving usually over 50% in cost. My girlfriend struggles with Windows so I got her a laptop that is comparable to a Macbook Pro from say, 2008, and it cost less than $300.
