@monospaced - its a bit of escapism for the Daily Mail readers of the UK to be honest... not a lot more. Although history and tradition are a huge part of the UK (regardless of good and bad) and I think people just enjoy forgetting about their problems on a day like this.
As I said I'm not a monarchist, just they don't really do a lot of harm nowadays and in my opinion pay for themselves in tourism etc... There have been hugely positive effects from them in the past - like The Prince's Trust etc... but the the nation does get nervous when they try to influence anything important... they don't anymore.

    • im not making much sense - stella artois has taken its effect nowfadein11
    • In America, since we don't have a real royal family, we hand out reality shows to rich brats and elevate them to important levels that they are undeserving ofmonospaced
    • undeserving levels. I just get the same vibe from the UK and how they treat the royal family like celebritiesmonospaced
    • its totally different though, strangely i find it insulting you compare paris hilton to royalty... it must be

    • Your naivity is scary. Unfortunately it's a perfect example of how most people 'understand' the royal family.set
    • it's not naivity, it's skepticism...and I apply it to most things, so don't take it personallymonospaced
    • I know WHAT the royal monarchy is, I know WHY it is, I just don't really understand why it's still heremonospaced
    • I was talking to fadein.set
    • Also, I don't take anything personally. I'm not important enough ;-)set
