    If you're there, walk around the neighborhood you're interested in and look at windows for "For Rent" signs. Places go so fast, people don't have to use a listing service.

    I've also had good luck with craigslist if you can refresh all day looking for listings as they appear then have a schedule open to meet at their whim.

    Timing and availability are keys to finding a place you like in a decent neighborhood

    other than that you can always live outside of town in a converted live/work space.
