    I have these programs pretty much running for at least 8hrs a day:

    - Photoshop
    - Illustrator
    - Safari
    - iChat
    - Twitter
    - Spotify
    - Mail

    Then will have an additional 4 or 5 apps off and on depending on when I need them:

    - Transmit
    - Dreamweaver
    - Grab
    - Textwrangler

    All this running on a 2 yr old, 15" MBP 2.66GHz w/ 4gb ram. No chugging at all. This is pretty much the standard it seems
