  Both 1 & 2 are entirely AE. Typical AE techniques used there.
  The "letter swinging" is from the 3D options, as someone mentioned.
  The words sliding in a path, or rotating around the Globe in a 360... All AE. Also, some people use something call the "camera" tool to get the effect of getting close/ zoom in and out from the words or rotating the words from the next frame.

  The cost can be pretty high, since unlike interactive or print work, this takes a lot of rendering time. very time consuming.
