It can heavily depend on temperament and whether or not you want to have employees eventually. If you can be a strong Type A around each other at times, and it doesn't sneak into personal life, then cool deal. As soon as you have your first employee (and this goes for client contacts, too), you'll need to establish which of you will be the final word in specific situations (creative direction, business operations...). I've worked for a couple couples, and when there was clarity and definition in operations, things motored along splendidly.
My wife and I collaborate creatively, but keep offices separate. It gives us a chance to work together, but eliminates the vibe of working for one another.
