They discussed the feet in the film too but I can't remember everything. They discussed that its palms are discoloured like ape hands and feet are, also the pads on their hands and feet go up the sides, so basically combine the coloring of the bottom and sides of the feet with poor detail in the film, blurring and grain and the toe detail fades. They took the original film and optimized it to reveal more details so there was likely more toe information.
