One of the things I remember from this documentary, the one can't find but really wish I could, was that they recreated a 3d model of the figure and how it walks and compared it to 3d models of chimps walking on two legs and showed why they were similar. The only way, they said, to have the figure walking in the film in this way would be to actually physically mimic this walk. They then got regular sized actors to work with a chimp expert to attempt to accurately walk in the same way but it was almost impossible. People's bodies just don't easily walk in this manner.
Now the best scientists at the time of the film did not have detailed knowledge on how primates like chimps walk on two feet. There was no 3d computer simulations back then or very good studies on this sort of thing, so for them to have faked how it walked they would have to have kNOWN that this is excactly how chimps walk and then got this 8 foot tall person to mimic it exactly. Its not possible.
